MANUSCRIPT EMBROIDERY “WHITEWORK” PATTERN BOOK, circa 1815 ( from watermark) . Pp 108 with patterns mainly to rectos but with some pages verso.as well. Wonderfully lively designs for raised whitework ( a form of white on white embroidery) in pen . Approx 21.5 cm x 18.5 cm, now in tidy buckram binding. We have had several similar pattern books before. This example bears an impressed stamp showing a crown and the word “Bath” to the top left corners. Light toning throughout, heavier towards the end, with a few pages lacking corners or showing oxidisation of the paper through the action of the ink used. A beautiful piece of work by an unknown woman of the early nineteenth century.
condition: Fair
